In this Week 2 matchup, the San Francisco 49ers will host the Detroit Lions in their first home game of the season at Candlestick Park. In a game pitting two playoff teams from last season, the 49ers look to go 2-0 to start the season against one of the better teams in the NFC. Here's a look at the injuries sustained by both teams for this Week 2 contest.
Out for Lions: CB Bill Bentley (concussion)
In Week 1 against the St. Louis Rams, Bentley left the game after sustaining a concussion in the third quarter. Serving as one of the team's starting cornerbacks in the season opener, the Lions secondary will certainly be an area of concern for the Lions.
Out for 49ers: None
Both Delmas and Houston missed Detroit's first game and will likely be unavailable for this game as well. Due to these injuries in the secondary, the Lions will have to rely on the likes of Jacob Lacey, Drayton Florence, and John Wendling to stop Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss, and Mario Manningham. Lewis is a seventh-round draft pick from Oklahoma and is a rookie who is still looking for his first snaps of the season.
Doubtful for 49ers: None
Questionable for Lions: DE Lawrence Jackson (calf), DT Corey Williams (knee)
Two members of the Lions defensive line are listed as questionable. While Jackson participated in his first limited practice of the week on Friday, Williams did not participate in practice on Thursday and Friday. Both players are important role players on the defense and would give an even greater upper hand to the 49ers offense if they were absent.
Questionable for 49ers: WR Ted Ginn Jr. (ankle), RB Brandon Jacobs (knee)
Once again, Ginn and Jacobs are the biggest injury concerns for the 49ers, as they're both not expected to play in Week 2. Both have not practiced for weeks but they are getting healthier and could return the following week. On special teams, Kendall Hunter will handle kickoff-return duties and Kyle Williams will handle punt-return duties.
Probable for Lions: WR Calvin Johnson (foot)
Although listed as probable, Johnson's minor foot injury will likely have little effect on his ability to play. Johnson looks to exact revenge on a 49ers team that kept him out of the end zone during their contest last season.
Probable for 49ers: LB Navarro Bowman (shoulder), P Andy Lee (hand)
With 11 total tackles last week, Bowman was a huge contributor to the team's win against the Green Bay Packers last week. Lee is working a protective splint on his right thumb after trying to tackle Randall Cobb during his return touchdown. Both players show no signs of missing this game.
