The Miami Hurricanes are in what I would consider to be a rebuilding phase. While this is sometimes a scenario that is not a welcomed one by fans, as a huge Canes fan I am personally excited by the change. With the 2012 season just about to get underway, head coach Al Golden has released his latest depth chart after a lightening shortened scrimmage. While the depth chart has produced some new faces for sure, for fans like me, it has produced some new hope as well.
Some Familiar Names
The Hurricanes are going to be a young team this season, but there are some veteran players who have shown they have what it takes to make it as a starter leading into the opening game against Boston College. On the offensive side of the ball, Stephen Morris is getting the starting nod at quarterback and Mike James is listed as the number one running back. On defense there is the familiar name of Vaughn Telemaque at safety, who I think has all the right ingredients to make for an effective team leader both on and off the field.
New Names, New Hope
Other familiar names are listed as starters too, but these are names of players who have yet to make their full impact known. However, there are also some new names that not only breed intrigue in fans like me, but also ones that breed hope as well.
Not taking anything away from any Hurricanes team ever, but last season the Canes finished a dismal 6-6. So, with big names on the roster last season and only a handful of wins to show for all that talent, maybe a change is just what The U needs. In reality, whether it is or it isn't, change is what is about to come.
Being a huge fan of college football, there really isn't ever a beginning of the season where I am not chomping at the bit with excitement. While that has not changed one bit leading into the 2012 season, what has changed is how my excitement feels. With all the new faces that will be making plays for the Canes in 2012 I am experiencing nervousness to go along with my excitement. I know that the new look of the Hurricanes could mean another dismal year, but I also know that they might surprise everyone and do much better than expected.
So, I'm not sure which scenario will play out, but I do know I will watch every game with great anticipation. Because I am confident in Al Golden and his coaching ability, I am also confident that the new faces that litter the Canes depth chart are the right ones for the job.
