With UFC 153 just hours away from starting, time is running out for fans to decide if they will be ordering the event on pay-per-view. Aside from Anderson Silva (vs. Stephan Bonnar) and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (vs. Dave Herman), the card doesn't feature the big name fighters that usually guarantee buys, but with a six-fight main card, the fans are sure to find something they enjoy. One of the fights that isn't being spoken about much is the welterweight showdown between Demian Maia and Rick Story. It's primed to be an exciting fight that could be the fight to watch.
Maia began his UFC career at middleweight and won his first five fights before Nate Marquardt stopped him with a first round KO. He would win his next fight against Dan Miller, but then took part in one of the worst fights in the history of mixed martial arts with Anderson Silva. Following the loss to Silva, he would go 3-2 in the division, before dropping to welterweight. In his welterweight debut, he beat Dong Hyun Kim via TKO.
For Story, his career was looking like it couldn't be stopped after knocking off Dustin Hazelett, Johny Hendricks and Thiago Alves consecutively. He was in the position where another win could have propelled him towards a title shot, but a loss to Charlie Brenneman --a late replacement at UFC Live: Kongo vs. Barry -- and the subsequent loss to Martin Kampmann derailed any immediate title hopes. He bounced back by beating Brock Jardine in his last fight, but needs another solid performance against Maia to be considered for a title shot in the next couple years.
Maia is one of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the sport and is one of the most dangerous when it comes to the ground game, but Story has great wrestling skills that would test Maia's ability to even get a takedown.
While Silva and Nogueira would usually be enough for me to order an event, this fight, as well as appearances from Erick Silva, Glover Teixeira and Phil Davis makes this a must-buy event for true fans of MMA.
