DeMarcus Cousins put up 35 points and recorded 13 rebounds, while Rudy Gay added 32 points and 5 rebounds to lead the Sacramento Kings to a close victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, 123-119. The Kings shot 40-85 (47.1%) from the field and turned it over on only eight possessions. Sacramento (11-22) gets one in the win column after losing to Charlotte on Saturday.
Cousins went 13-28 and converted 9-15 from the free throw line. Damian Lillard had another strong performance for Portland despite the loss, scoring 41 points on 13-24 shooting (7-13 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 8-8 from the free throw line. He also registered 7 rebounds. LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds, Robin Lopez finished with 18 points and 7 rebounds, and Nicolas Batum put up 11 points and 11 rebounds.
This drops Portland (26-9) to 2-1 against Sacramento on the year.
The Kings play the Magic (10-24) in their next game. The Trail Blazers also go up against the Magic next, with their game coming on Wednesday. The Kings have a 1-0 record against Orlando this season.
