Dee Gordon Says Hitting a Home Run for Jose Fernandez Was the Greatest Moment of His Life

The Miami Marlins lost 24-year-old Jose Fernandez in a boating accident this past weekend. But, after canceling Sunday's game, the show must go on. They went ahead with their matchup with the New York Mets tonight, and they honored a fallen brother as best any baseball club could: Dee Gordon, their second baseman and lead-off man, homered to lead off the game for them:

By all accounts, it as an emotional moment. Gordon himself seemed to be overcome as he crossed the plate:

Is baseball still magic? It might just be.

Update (9/27/16): In a heartbreaking postgame interview, Gordon described hitting this home run as "the greatest moment of [his] life."
