Recommendation: The results of an MRI revealed inflammation in the bony area of Ortiz's right heel, but the slugger is feeling soreness in both. He will not participate in any physical activity for the next 5-7 days while taking anti-inflammatory medicine. It now looks like Ortiz may miss the start of the regular season, which would open up an additional roster spot. That's good news for several guys in camp.

Update: Red Sox manager John Farrell suggested Ortiz (heels) may not be ready for the start of the regular season, ESPN Boston reports. "He's going to need the at-bats," Farrell said of the prospect of Ortiz missing the season opener. "We're three weeks away (from the end of spring training). We're starting to get into an area that's going to have a direct bearing on him starting the regular season."
