EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Dominating La Liga with his goal-scoring ability for Atletico Madrid, Falcao continues to be linked with a move to a bigger club in Europe. After guarding him for 90 minutes in Brazil's 1-1 draw against Colombia, David Luiz hopes that the striker's choice will be Chelsea.
"I'm happy when there are great names attached to Chelsea," Luiz said. "He's a great player. It would be a good choice for Falcao to come to Chelsea."
Falcao was held scoreless in Wednesday's friendly against Brazil but in Europe, defenders haven't been as lucky. The Colombian forward has scored 121 goals in 147 appearances for Porto and Atletico Madrid and his form has drawn the interest of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid. Luiz, who plays center back for both Brazil and Chelsea, admits that Falcao was tough to guard when he marked him on Wednesday's match.
"He's a great player. It's particularly hard to stop him," he said.
Chelsea has had its own struggles in finishing this season. Fernando Torres, Chelsea's record signing at 50 million pounds, hasn't replicated his dominant form from Liverpool since joining the Blues in 2011. The Spain striker has only scored 19 goals in 85 appearance for Chelsea, a big drop from scoring 81 goals in 141 games for Liverpool.
Falcao's strong performances have led to Atletico showing major improvement this season as it sits five points ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga. Luiz believes that Falcao would adjust well to Chelsea's playing style, though he admits that he doesn't know anything concrete about a possible move next January or the summer.
"Of course [he'd be a great fit]," Luiz stated. "All of the players would be happy because Falcao would be a great player."
