The Role of Injuries in SoccerSoccer has long been a sport incorporating acting. When a player falls down they attempt to draw the foul call on the opposing team. It's just part of the game. If you're able to gain an advantage over your opponent, you'll take it.
However, the sport also takes actual injuries rather seriously, including what happened to David Ferreira FC Dallas. For the last year, he's been undergoing an injury rehab stint, in order to repair the damage bestow upon him through an illegal, foul play. He just recently returned to the sport, and is playing for FC Dallas once again.
Schellas Hyndman, FC Dallas' Coach, Wants David Ferreira Protected
However, since his return, the FC Dallas head coach Hyndman has starting calling out for fouls, seemingly whenever someone comes close to contact with his star player. Yes, he wishes to protect his player from further injury, but there becomes a point where enough is enough and the teams just need to play the game.
FC Dallas' Double Standard
FC Dallas red cards are not a sight to be unseen. In fact, the team leads the league in these calls. But, for whatever reason, this doesn't seem to bother the Schellas Hyndman FC Dallas head coach. He just wants to protect HIS players and not those he is playing against. Perhaps, if his team was less likely to commute red card penalties, the officials would be more likely to site with him.
Monday, August 20, 201 is the first day of the 2012 MLS season the head coach talked about these incidents. However, only time will tell to see if he actually calms down on his asking for penalties. If he doesn't, he is less likely to receive the calls, even when a call should go his ways. Officials don't like the constant harassment. We'll see on Sunday, August 26, 2012, which is the next scheduled game.
