LAS VEGAS – Davey Johnson is expected to be named manager of Team USA for the World Baseball Classic in a Wednesday announcement here, a source said Monday afternoon at the winter meetings.
Johnson, who managed the Mets, Reds, Orioles and Dodgers over 17 seasons ending in 2000, led the U.S. Olympic team to a bronze this summer.
Marcel Lachemann will be the pitching coach and Reggie Smith will be the hitting coach.
Three years ago under Buck Martinez, Team USA finished a disappointing 3-3 in the WBC.
