Darvish's next start pushed back; Perez sidelined

The SportsXchange

The Texas Rangers have to tinker with their starting rotation because of an injury to left-hander Martin Perez and the heavy workload of right-hander Yu Darvish in his last start.

The Rangers announced that Darvish's next start will be pushed back two days from his next scheduled Wednesday start in Houston.

Darvish, who threw 126 pitches in a near no-hitter Friday against the Boston Red Sox, will make his next start on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Rangers also announced that Perez will miss at least one start because of discomfort in his left elbow. Perez is scheduled to have an MRI to determine the extent of the injury.

Perez started the season 4-0 with a 1.42 earned-run average, but he is now 4-3 with a 4.38 ERA.

Nick Tepesch was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, so he will probably be the Rangers' starter for Wednesday's game.

The Rangers also announced pitcher Scott Baker and infielder Josh Wilson cleared waivers. Baker has accepted an assignment in Round Rock. The Rangers have not received word from Wilson.
