Dan Henderson and the Best UFC Fighters Who Never Earned a Title: Fan's View

Yahoo Contributor Network

After winning seven of his last eight, Dan Henderson is finally getting a UFC title shot against UFC Light Heavyweight champ Jon Jones.

"You've really got to get inside and fight with him and end up in the clinch with him a lot," Henderson says in a USAToday.com report. "Jones is better than most guys in the clinch. ... (But) that's where I'm most comfortable. At the same time I need to be real careful with catching one of those goofy elbows that he throws."

Henderson, a true MMA legend, holds wins in the UFC over notable opponents like Mauricio Rua, Michael Bisping and Rich Franklin. Now at age 41, his upcoming contest against Jones may be his last shot at UFC gold.

Besides Henderson, here's a look at the top five UFC fighters who never earned a title:

2) Josh Koscheck: UFC fans sometimes forget that Josh Koscheck is one of the winningest fighters in league history.

His 15 victories in the octagon since 2005 ranks him behind less than handful of current and future UFC Hall of Famers on the all-time charts. Besides Matt Hughes, Georges St-Pierre, Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture, Koscheck tallied more victories than any other UFC fighter since 1993.

3) Kenny Florian: "KenFlo" deserves credit for doing everything in his power to try to win a UFC title, which often meant significant weight cuts and gains to give it a go in tilts in the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions. Florian, who tallied 12 UFC wins before his MMA career was derailed by a back injury, suffered losses to Sean Sherk, B.J. Penn and Jose Aldo in his three title shots.

4) Jon Fitch: Fitch, who has 13 UFC wins, is a perennial contender in the welterweight division.

An eight-fight win streak between 2005 and 2008 earned him a title shot against Georges St-Pierre at UFC 87, where he fell just a bit short of notching the belt. Now at age 34 and coming off a 0-1-1 record, time may be winding down for Fitch to ever become a UFC champion.

5) Michael Bisping: Bisping had the misfortune of getting stuck in the same division that Anderson Silva dominated for most of the past decade.

Bisping, who holds 12 wins in the octagon, fell short in his match against Chael Sonnen that would have earned him a title shot. He is undoubtedly one of the top fighters in MMA history, with victories over Chris Leben, Dan Miller, Matt Hamill, Jorge Rivera and others.
