As a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt Jr., by proxy I am also a huge fan of everyone else who races on his Hendrick Motorsports team. This includes some of the most talented drivers in NASCAR today with Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Kasey Kahne making up the rest of the four man roster. With all four drivers currently looking to possibly make the Chase for the Sprint Cup, it is clear to me that this Hendrick Motorsports team is the dream team in NASCAR.
The Chase Is Calling - Hendrick Is Answering
The Chase for the Sprint Cup is NASCAR's version of the playoffs and begins when there are only five races remaining. With only five races remaining until the 2012 Chase for the Sprint Cup begins, all four of the Hendrick Motorsports drivers are in position to take one of the 12 available spots. A quick glance at the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings confirms the good news.
Both Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon are in position to receive the two wild card spots that the Chase allots for and Jimmie Johnson is in great shape at fourth place in the standings. Of course, my personal favorite, Dale Earnhardt Jr., is the current championship point leader, so his prospects are looking great as well.
Everyone's a Winner
With Jeff Gordon being the most recent winner in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, now all the drivers on the team have at least one win in the season. Of course the most impressive win to me was the one that saw Dale Jr. break his 143 race winless streak, but the team as a whole has been quite impressive. In fact, as a team, the Hendrick Motorsports drivers have a combined seven wins this season in 21 races. To put it another way, they win one out of every three races. Sounds like a dream team to me.
Best of the Best
In my mind this is the best Hendrick Motorsports team ever assembled. If all four drivers make it into the Chase then Hendrick Motorsports will obviously be the odds-on favorite to bring home the NASCAR Sprint Cup title. The only question I have is which Hendrick Motorsports driver will emerge as the best of the best at the end of the year and hoist the championship trophy in the air? Of course, I hope it is Dale Jr., but any driver from NASCAR's dream team will be a welcomed site for me.
Jimmy Collins has been a loyal fan of NASCAR since he was a child attending races watching Dale Earnhardt run the famous number 3. He still attends numerous races each season and enjoys writing about NASCAR, particularly in regards to Dale Earnhardt as well as Dale Earnhardt Jr.
