D’Onta Foreman could solve the Philadelphia Eagles issues at running back

With Ryan Mathews almost surely on his way out of Philly after subpar and injury plagued year, the Philadelphia Eagles look to have a hole developing at the running back position. While the team does have players like Darren Sproles that can catch the football and work out of the backfield, it will not have a true runner should Mathews depart this offseason.

With the stock of Dalvin Cook likely to rise following his tremendous performance in the Orange Bowl, it is likely that the Eagles will be without an opportunity to select a running back in the first round. Picking at number 14, the two backs likely to taken early will be gone, leaving Philly to look to the later rounds of the draft for a replacement running back.

One player that appears to be running under the radar is that of Texas running back D’Onta Foreman. Rushing for over 2,000-yards this past season with the Longhorns, Foreman has quickly seen his name recognition and stock rise to that of a second round pick. However, without a bowl game to showcase his skills, Foreman has been stuck at his current projection for a while now.

Though a strong combine performance could see Foreman’s stock rise, the current status of three first round running backs will certainly make any more of a rise harder for him to accomplish. Should his current stock remain, this will put him in a perfect spot for the Philadelphia Eagles to draft him with their second round pick during this year’s draft.

While Foreman is not much of a pass catcher, the Eagles already have enough of those players to give the Texas product some rotation. Having a big body with quick feet, Foreman is your prototypical runner. Combining his rushing ability with that of Darren Sproles for quick screen plays and Philly may have an explosive combination in their backfield.

Continuing to develop rookie quarterback Carson Wentz, establishing a strong rushing attack may help lift some of the burden off of Wentz this season. A perfect player to do that lifting is Texas running back D’Onta Foreman. Should he be available in the second round, look for the Eagles to give him a closer look.
