D.C. United continues 19-game unbeaten streak at home

WASHINGTON -- In D.C. United's 2012 home opener, the team conceded a backbreaking late goal to Sporting Kansas City's C.J. Sapong in a 1-0 loss. One year later, it still remains the last time the team lost at home.

Saturday night, the 2013 version of United debuted at home and, once again, the visiting team - in this case Real Salt Lake - went home without a win, as Lionard Pajoy's second half goal gave DCU a 1-0 victory, extending a league-best home unbeaten run to 19 games.

"It means a lot," goalkeeper Bill Hamid said of the streak. "It's key with the fans, the fans bring the energy and they make it hard for other teams and they give us a buzz to really come out and pounce on other teams. We want to continue taking advantage."

A crowd of just over 17,000 at RFK Stadium witnessed a stuttering start to the match, which picked up steam towards the end of the second half. A poacher's finish by Pajoy and a standout defensive showing combined to give United its first three points of 2013 after an opening day loss to Houston.

"A win tonight is big," head coach Ben Olsen said. "It's big for the fans that came out strong tonight and we sent them home happy."

Just as they have been for over a year now.
