D.C. mayor says 'good chance' Redskins could change name in 10 years

National Football Post

Washington D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray says he believes the Washington Redskins will change their name at some point in the next decade.

Gray, who started a fuss over the Redskins name some time back, is sticking with the issue. According to Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post, he told Alex Parker of WJLA that there is a “good chance” the team name will change.

All of this came up over discussions about the Redskins potentially moving their stadium back to D.C. from Landover, Md. There has also been talk about the club moving its headquarters out of Ashburn, Va., to a site in Maryland or D.C.

“I think there’s a good chance,” Gray said. “If they come back to the site of RFK Stadium, that is federal land. And so I was saying well if we were to build a stadium on the site of RFK, there’s no doubt that the federal government will raise questions about the name, because it will be stimulated by a lot of people.”

What the politicians like Gray have not addressed is the fact that the vast majority of Redskins fans don’t want the team’s name to change.
