Cutler expects to play Sunday

The SportsXchange

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said in his weekly radio show that he received treatment for his sore neck on Monday morning and expects to play against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

"Unless something drastic happens, absolutely," Cutler told ESPN 1000 radio.

Cutler was taken out of Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth quarter with a sore neck. He was hit by defensive end Everson Griffen, who was penalized for unnecessary roughness.

The quarterback said his neck is "just tight. Got some treatment this morning, so should be ready to go later in the week."

Bears coach Lovie Smith did not say much about Cutler's status during his weekly press conference.

"Without going into detail, which I don't really know, I think it's normal soreness that you would have from a stiff neck," Smith said. "But again, I try not to jump too far on that side, to try to play doctor too much.

Cutler missed one game in November because of a concussion. He insisted the latest injury is not head-related.

"I was getting spasms," he said. "I wasn't going to help anybody being out there."

The Bears (8-5) have lost four of their last five games. They could help Green Bay (9-4) clinch the NFC North division championship with a loss.
