While it is almost always bad news as it regards to the amount of depth at certain positions, this is not that type of article. Instead, this is about how the Buffalo Bills will potentially deal with the great amount of depth they currently have at the running back position.

Beginning at the top, Lesean McCoy still remains as the undisputed king of the backfield in Buffalo. Despite his injuries last season, McCoy looks to be setup to have a successful season with the Bills. Depending on the strength of the passing game, McCoy could have a chance to return to the form that saw him become a star in Philadelphia.

Overall as well, McCoy should be able to have some clearer running spaces this season as long as the passing game remains strong. Once Sammy Watkins returns to full health, expect McCoy to begin putting up some solid-to-good numbers in the Buffalo Bills backfield.

Playing in five games for the Bills last season Mike Gillislee showed spots of brilliance when running the football. The highlights of the season had to be his 60-yard touchdown run during the week 15 matchup at the Washington Redskins. If Gillislee can turn in runs like that again this season, Gillislee will be a top level backup for the Bills.

Next on the list for the Buffalo Bills backfield is former Florida State running back Karlos Williams. Playing in eleven games last season for the Bills, Williams scored seven rushing touchdowns, two receiving touchdowns, and recording 5.6 yards per rush.

Even with the current set of running backs, look for Williams to be that power back when called upon. Third and goal and third and short will likely be his go to plays this season should the entire staff of backs remain healthy.

Finally, we find the newest addition to the Buffalo Bills running back roster, rookie Jonathan Williams. The former Arkansas Razorback did not play at all last season due to injury and will likely need some time to adjust to the NFL.

However, should he develop his skills to match the skill level needed in the NFL, Jonathan Williams could be another top notch back for the Bills. Staying healthy after missing his entire season last year will also be key to Williams potential development.

While these four running backs may not individually be in the league’s top tier, combined, they could deliver an amazing performance this season for the Buffalo Bills.
