(Jim Young/Reuters)The renovations at Wrigley will continue into the season.

Major League Baseball will open its season on Sunday on national television, and Wrigley Field, the home of the opening-night game, is still very much under construction.

The renovations that started at Wrigley this winter are such a mess that Chicago Cubs pitcher Jason Hammel compared it to Baghdad in an interview with he Chicago Tribune.

"It looks like Baghdad," Hammel said. "But you know there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow right now. We're going to deal with it, but it's exciting."

The biggest issue is the unfinished outfield bleachers, which include more than 5,000 general admission seats. The bleachers were completely gutted and are being rebuilt from scratch as part of the renovation, but poor weather in Chicago has caused delays to the construction.

Here is what those bleachers looked like on Monday.

The right field bleachers (above) are not scheduled to be completed until mid-June. There's even talk that construction may continue during Cubs home games.

The left field bleachers are not expected to be finished until the Cubs' 16th home game on May 11.

The Cubs have completed the installation of a new video board above the left field bleachers.

Here is what the bleachers looked like on Wednesday, four days before Opening Day.

The Cubs are planning to add a second video board to the right field bleachers. However, owners of the buildings across the street are battling that part of the renovation in court.
