Jacob deGrom takes the mound for the Mets coming off eight shutout innings against the Atlanta Braves in his last start. The Cubs offense will likely present a bit more of a challenge than the Braves did, however deGrom’s 2.67 ERA this season shows he’s a handful to deal with regardless of his opponent.

Right-hander Jason Hammel might not equal deGrom in terms of star power, but so far he’s posted a slightly better ERA at 2.58 and has helped Chicago’s staff combine for the best ERA in baseball.

As it stands, the Cubs and their National League-leading 51 wins appear to be a better bet to return to the NLCS. The Mets are six games behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East, but their 41-37 record does have them in the second wild-card spot, a half-game up on the Miami Marlins.

What will these two teams bring us for an encore? The expectations are high following a dramatic series opener. The Cubs looked to be in control up 3-0 in the sixth before the Mets struck for four runs late and held on for the win. We look forward to watching it again.
