Cubs Heroes and Goats: Games 128-130

Pitching dominated the Hero podium in the Cubs' weekend sweep of the Baltimore Orioles.

After a college move-in day and a widespread internet outage, there's a little catching up to do.

A quick recap of the Friday and Saturday games:

Game 128 (Friday - Cubs 4, Orioles 1):
Superhero -
Jake Arrieta (.307). The first of several dominant performances on the mound by the Cub pitching staff in this series.
Billy Goat - Arismendy Alcantara (-.054). The whiff with runners on the corners in the third was all it took.

Game 129 (Saturday - Cubs 7, Orioles 2):
Superhero -
Chris Coghlan (.227). Only had one hit on the day, but it was a huge one.
Billy Goat - Kyle Hendricks (-.119). Had two rough innings before the rains came and ended his day early.

And now, back to the normal recap for Sunday:

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Tsuyoshi Wada (.274). Breezed through six-plus innings of work with only one mistake.
  • Hero - Arismendy Alcantara (.190). Put the first run on the board with his homer in the fifth.
  • Sidekick - Hector Rondon (.158). Has recorded a save in each of his last seven outings, allowing only three hits in that span.

THE THREE GOATS:

UPDATED RANKINGS THROUGH GAME 130 (Changes in Bold, Notations Below):

x - Player not on 25-man roster.
y - Player not on 40-man roster.
z - Player no longer with Cubs.
