Cubs' Garza has arm soreness in rehab
Chicago Cubs right-hander Matt Garza was scratched from a rehab outing and was to have his sore right arm re-examined on Wednesday.
Garza, who suffered a strained lat during batting practice on Feb. 17 during spring training in Arizona, was scheduled to throw 45-50 pitches for Class AA Tennessee on Wednesday night.
He threw a two-inning simulated game on Friday in Milwaukee and a bullpen session on Sunday.
"There was nothing going on after that bullpen that day," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "Hopefully, it's just routine normal soreness, dead arm, whatever you want to call it."
Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said Garza isn't experiencing a problem with his right elbow, which sidelined him for a significant portion of last season. The team called Garza's latest medical issue a "dead arm."
"It's all muscular, nothing structural," Hoyer told CSNChicago.com. "We'll give him a couple days."
