Crosby hopes to get clearance on Tuesday

The SportsXchange

Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby is scheduled to meet with doctors on Tuesday, which may determine whether he can play in Wednesday's playoff opener against the New York Islanders, NHL.com reported.

Crosby hasn't played since suffering a broken jaw when he took a puck to the face on March 30.

"Just going for an appointment," Crosby said Monday, according to NHL.com. "I don't have any control over it, so there's no point of getting too worked up about it. I don't know exactly what [needs to be checked out], but I'm sure they'll take a peek and see how everything's healing."

Crosby is hoping to get clearance to play in Game 1 of the Penguins' first-round playoff series.

Crosby practiced with teammates on Monday, playing on a line with Dustin Jeffrey and Joe Vitale, who are likely to be healthy scratches for Game 1.
