Cris Cyborg: ‘I Can't Make 135,' Wants UFC Superfight Future

Dana White: If Ronda Rousey Wins Title, Cyborg Fight Will Happen

Cris Cyborg wants to continue fighting in the Octagon, but don't ever expect her to challenge for the UFC bantamweight championship.

She simply can't do it.

Cyborg currently holds the Invicta FC featherweight championship, and was the Strikeforce featherweight champion. While adding another belt to her collection would be a welcome addition, if the UFC continues to leave the 145-pound weight class on the sidelines, Cyborg will continue to take catchweight bouts.

She will continue to leave her mark in history by fighting superfights.

“I already have two belts. I’m not looking for another one. I want to have super-fights for my fans,” Cyborg said after destroying Lina Lansberg on Saturday night. “I think my fights go down in history.”

Cyborg has now fought twice in the Octagon, decimating her opposition both times. She also has a longstanding feud with Ronda Rousey, who refused to fight her at any weight other than 135 pounds when she was champion.

Now that Rousey has lost the belt, it would seem the door is open for a catchweight bout, but UFC president Dana White has been insistent that when Rousey returns, it will be a fight for the belt. So that door is still, at least partially, closed.

It's been difficult for Cyborg to make the weight in her two 140-pound bouts, so if Rousey gets the belt back, don't expect the two to get together in the cage.

“Every time that I made weight at this weight class at 140 pounds is very tough for me,” said Cyborg.

“I never pick my opponents. I always let them pick the opponents for me, so anyone in the top ten at 135 that wants to fight at 140 (I'll fight), (but) I can’t make 135,” she continued, adding that she will continue dropping to 140 pounds, even if the UFC won't relent, even to Joe Rogan, who has also pleaded with the promotion to add a women's 145-pound weight class.

“I know they won’t want to make 145, so I’ll do my sacrifice. I’ll cry to make 140.”

Despite her inability to safely get to 135 pounds, and the UFC's unwillingness to open up a featherweight division, Cyborg wants to continue fighting in the Octagon. She also has yet to write-off the Rousey fight, believing it may one day happen.

“I want to put on a great fights for the fans. I think that’s what makes MMA grow, and who knows, maybe we’ll have a great fight, the one that everyone is expecting, me and Ronda Rousey.”
