Coyotes' Bissonnette gets suspension reduced to 3 games

The SportsXchange

Phoenix Coyotes forward Paul Bissonnette's suspension has been reduced from 10 games to three games for his conduct in leaving his team's bench to join an on-ice altercation in an exhibition game with the Los Angeles Kings on Sept. 15.

At 12:09 of the first period against the Kings, Bissonnette was assessed a game misconduct penalty under Rule 70.6, which states: "A game misconduct penalty shall be imposed on the player who was the first or second player to leave the players' or penalty bench during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation, from either or both teams."

Because this incident occurred during a preseason game, there was less video evidence. The precise timing and circumstances to which Bissonnette entered the ice surface are not apparent in the video, according to the NHL.

As a result of the league's determination to reduce the suspension to three games, Bissonnette and the NHLPA have agreed to withdraw their appeal. The matter is now closed.

Bissonnette will miss games Oct. 3 vs. New York Rangers, Oct. 5 vs. San Jose and Oct. 8 vs. New York Islanders. He will be eligible to return Oct. 10 against Detroit.
