GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith made his second straight strong start and fourth-line forwards Jason Szwarz and Jeff Halpern scored for the Coyotes in a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night at Jobing.com Arena.

Szwarz and Halpern scored in the first period to give the Coyotes some breathing room, and Smith permitted only a power-play goal until right winger Jaromir Jagr tipped in a shot with 2:14 remaining after the Devils pulled goaltender Martin Brodeur.

Center Martin Hanzal also scored for Phoenix (24-16-9), which won its second straight after a four-game losing streak.

Smith made 32 saves after posting the Coyotes' first shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over Vancouver on Thursday.

Brodeur had 24 saves for the Devils (20-19-11), who snapped a streak of six straight games with at least one point. Smith was chosen as one of three goals for Team Canada, while Brodeur was left off the roster.

Left winger Ryane Clowe scored late in the first period to cut the score to 2-1, but Hanzal's 14th goal on a power play in the second period closed the scoring. The Coyotes have a power-play goal in each of their last seven games.

Jagr's goal was the 696th of his career.

Szwarz gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead with his third goal of the season less than three minutes into the game, when he beat Brodeur on the stick side after a centering pass from behind the net by center Kyle Chipchura. Szwarz suffered cut on his chin when he took a skate late in the second period but did not miss a shift.

Halpern scored his second goal of the season for a 2-0 Phoenix lead at 13:13 of the first period, when he beat Brodeur to the glove side. The goal came seven seconds after the Devils killed a penalty for too many men on the ice.

NOTES: Phoenix C Martin Hanzal skated on the first line after being fined $5,000 for a high-sticking incident against Vancouver F David Booth in the Coyotes' 1-0 victory on Thursday. Hanzal received a double-minor penalty on the play, which occurred late in the third period. ... Devils LW Patrik Elias, 37, played his second straight game after missing seven with what the Devils called "total body soreness." ... Coyotes D Zbynek Michalek played his second straight game after missing the previous 13 with a lower-body injury. ... The Coyotes have not lost on home ice to New Jersey since Feb. 12, 2003.
