Cowboys restructure several contracts

After WR Miles Austin strained a hamstring at practice Saturday, the team has decided to keep him off the field for at least a week.

When asked how long he thought Austin would be out, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said, "Certainly a few days, up to a week, but again we’ll be cautious with him along the way. He’s had a great start to camp, by the way.”

Austin missed six games last season because of hamstring issues.

“We’ve got to make sure we learn from that experience and if you remember with Miles, he’s had that really throughout his career," Garrett said. "He’s had a number of them over the course of his career and in a lot of ways it’s possibly a result of how he works. … He has to learn from the experience and making sure he’s getting the hydration, getting all the treatment, and he’s been doing all that stuff, but we’ve just got to make sure that we’re somewhat cautious with him not getting him back too soon and then when we get him back we’ll continue to monitor that and he’s on top of it as well. Communication is an important thing. He needs to communicate with us as to how’s he’s doing. Sometimes when you’re an undrafted free agent from Monmouth University and you’re a Jersey tough type of guy, you don’t want to tell the coach anything like that. You say, ‘Coach, I’m fine.’ That’s one of Miles’ greatest strengths and sometimes it can creep up in a negative way as well. So we’ve got to monitor him better. We don’t think it’s going to be a serious, serious thing. We’re going to do everything we can not to let it linger.”

He is being replaced by undrafted rookie WR Cole Beasley while he's sidelined.
