If Cowboys trade on Thursday, look for move down
The Dallas Cowboys made a bold and surprising move in the first round last season when they bolted up the board to select LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne with the sixth overall pick.
The Cowboys were sitting at No. 14 in the round and determined that Claiborne’s value was too good to pass, trading up to grab him. If they make a move on Thursday, owner Jerry Jones suggests it will be a trade down.
He might have to get in line. Other teams have suggested they would like to move down to add additional draft picks.
“There’s enough depth in this draft that you sure want to keep your ears open for trades, because you could very well get as good or better player at another level,” Jones said, according to the Dallas Morning News. “And we will have our minds open. We won’t be doing a lot before the draft, fielding many calls. It’ll probably be happening right there on draft day.
“Can you get enamored as a team with a specific player? Of course you can. So they may deem it worth some picks to get up there to get him. I’m implying trading down. It’s probably more likely that you’d see something like that than you would (trading) up.”
