Cowboys re-sign DE Spencer

The SportsXchange

The Dallas Cowboys re-signed defensive end Anthony Spencer to a one-year contract Saturday.

Spencer's agent, Jordan Woy, confirmed the deal via Twitter, according to ESPN.com.

Spencer was limited to just one game last season because of a knee injury. The Cowboys hope he recovers from his microfracture surgery in time for training camp in late July.

Spencer also visited the Washington Redskins and New York Giants before deciding to stay in Dallas. The Cowboys drafted Spencer in the first round in 2007.

The Cowboys started their offseason program last Monday and Spencer has been rehabbing at the team's Valley Ranch facility.

In 2012, Spencer had a career-high 11 sacks and was selected to the Pro Bowl.

The Cowboys also signed defensive linemen Henry Melton, Jeremy Mincey and Terrell McClain earlier this offseason. However, the Cowboys did release DeMarcus Ware, who ended up signing with the Denver Broncos, and lost Jason Hatcher to the Washington Redskins via free agency.

Spencer also signed one-year deals in 2012 and 2013. He made nearly $20 million in 2011 and '12 as the team's franchise player.
