Cowboys sign CB Claiborne to $16M deal
The Cowboys agreed to a four-year, $16.26 million contract with first-round pick Morris Claiborne. The deal includes a club option for a fifth season.
Claiborne was the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft. The Cowboys traded up from the No. 14 spot in a deal with the Rams to acquire Claiborne, the top cornerback in the draft according to NFLDraftScout.com ratings and an All-American at LSU in 2011.
Claiborne and free-agent addition Brandon Flowers -- who signed a
$50 million deal after a breakout season with the Chiefs -- are likely to start in an overhauled Cowboys secondary. Dallas also has veteran Mike Jenkins to boast a strong trio at the position.
Claiborne has recovered from wrist surgery and is not expected to have limitations in training camp when the Cowboys report July 29.
