Buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

Cowboys set to part ways with Marcus Spears

National Football Post

Salary cap constraints have prevented the Cowboys from slinging cash at free agents during the first two days of the new league year. But that doesn’t mean Jerry Jones and company have gone on vacation for the week.

Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports that the Cowboys are set to release eight-year defensive tackle Marcus Spears. The 30-year-old was selected by Dallas in the first round of the 2005 draft out of LSU. In eight seasons with the team, Spears has recorded ten sacks and three forced fumbles in 119 regular season appearances.

Spears had three years left on a five-year deal he signed with the Cowboys in 2011. The defensive tackle’s 2013 cap number checks in at $2.7 million.

With the extra cash on hand, the Cowboys may decide to jump into the mix for some of the talent still available on the market. Or, the team may decide to wait for the draft before making any new additions to the roster.
