How many more defensive injuries can the Cowboys withstand?
They’ll have extra time to get ready for the Eagles in Week 13, but the Cowboys might be without ILB Bruce Carter and will be without CB Orlando Scandrick. Carter suffered an elbow injury, the extent of which is not clear, and Scandrick suffered a broken left hand, sources told PFW. He was replaced in the game by CB Mike Jenkins and almost certainly will be placed on I.R., ending his season.
The team also was without NT Jay Ratliff, who suffered a groin injury. Ratliff is a key cog who was coming on inside. Carter had emerged as the team’s second-best defender next to OLB DeMarcus Ware after Sean Lee went down for the season, and the depth there suddenly is thin with only Ernie Sims, Dan Connor and Alex Albright left for two spots if Carter is out for an extended period.
Scandrick had been slumping of late but still was playing ahead of the former first-rounder Jenkins. Perhaps Jenkins will get a chance to revive his career down the stretch or rev up his trade value for the offseason.
The Cowboys’ hopes for the playoffs are dwindling, and their defensive manpower is crumbling. It’s not a great combination when the offensive line, run game and ability to control the clock on offense are extremely limited.
