Signs appear to be pointing toward rookie first-round pick Brandon Weedon being the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback this season.
On Wednesday, Coach Pat Shurmur, who has been giving Weeden most of the first-team reps ahead of Colt McCoy, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer he would like to have a starting quarterback named "sooner rather than later."
Shurmur has been through this before as a member of the St. Louis Rams staff when rookie Sam Bradford got the nod over A.J. Feeley, who started the first two preseason games, but then suffered a thumb injury.
Shurmur said Weeden and the Browns receivers are getting on the same page quickly.
"He's quickly getting a feel for his receivers,'' said Shurmur.
