Coughlin has no thoughts of retiring

New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin will be 67 by the time the next NFL season begins, but in his mind it's not retirement age.

Coughlin addressed questions Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine about when he will decide to step away from the game.

"I approach each year the way I've always approached it," Coughlin said, according to NFL.com. "I mean, the energy's flowing good, I'm excited about it, and looking forward to this offseason, getting our football team together again. Maybe at some point I'll get the message, but it certainly isn't right now."

Coughlin's contract runs through 2014, but that didn't stop Giants defensive back Terrell Thomas from saying recently that he believed Coughlin would coach one more year.

"I tried to think of something funny to say about that, but I couldn't think of anything," Coughlin said. "I don't know what would possess a young man to make that statement."

Giants co-owner John Mara expects the Super Bowl-winning coach to be around for a while.

"I mean, I don't see him going to Florida to play shuffleboard anytime soon," Mara told the New York Daily News.
