SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Patrick Corbin has undergone season-ending elbow surgery after a second opinion confirmed the need for the ligament repair.

The operation was performed Tuesday by noted surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Florida. Corbin revealed the operation via Twitter, and Diamondbacks bench coach Allan Trammell confirmed it later in the day when the team gathered for its first workout since returning from its season-opening series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Australia.

Corbin has a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament and will be out all of this season and possibly part of the next. The 16-game winner felt discomfort and had to leave his start last week.

Trammell was in charge of the Diamondbacks' workout because manager Kirk Gibson underwent a procedure to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Gibson is expected to be out a few days.
