WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Junior forward Michael Murray posted 16 points and nine rebounds, helping Coppin State snap a seven-game losing streak with a 63-56 victory over Howard in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Saturday at Burr Arena.
Murray led four players who scored in double figures for Coppin State (6-22, 3-10 MEAC), which had not won since upsetting Hampton in overtime Jan. 21. Freshman guard Patrick Cole, sophomore guard Taariq Cephas and junior guard Andre Armstrong scored 14 points apiece for the Eagles.
Senior forward Mike Phillips had 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead Howard (6-22, 3-11), which has lost four in a row and 10 of 12. Junior guard Tre Lee and senior guard Anton Dickerson added 11 points each.
Coppin State shot just 38.2 percent from the field but held Howard to 30.3 percent. The Bison made 20 of 66 field-goal attempts and 6 of 30 from 3-point range.
Howard led by six points midway through the first half, but Coppin State finished strong to take a 31-27 lead into the locker room at the break. The Eagles continued to build their lead in the second half, leading by 15 with 11:39 remaining.
