Conor Gillaspie makes insane catch diving into camera well

If you thought the San Francisco Giants wouldn’t go all out Sunday with a chance to clinch the National League’s second wild card spot, third baseman Conor Gillaspie set you straight quickly.

With the Giants already holding a five-run lead, Gillaspie tracked Chase Utley’s third-inning popup into foul territory and then fearlessly lunged into the camera well to make one the craziest catches of the season.

That was truly insane, only with good results as Gillaspie maintained the ball and walked away uninjured.

The latter may be as impressive as the catch. Because the camera was also tracking the ball, it made for an awkward collision that resulted in Gillaspie toppling over the camera and nearly landing on his head.

The effort speaks for itself, but it did receive the ultimate seal of approval.

When you can make an impression like that on Vin Scully in his final game, you’ve done something special. Now the Giants will aim to do something special. Needing just a win to clinch, they lead the Dodgers 5-1.
