ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) -- Concordia-Selma scored on a blocked punt return, then capitalized on two late missed extra points to upset Mississippi Valley State 20-19 Saturday night in a non-conference opener for both teams.
The NAIA Hornets, who trailed 7-0 after Garrick Jones' 9-yard scoring pass to Dytanyl Greer, scored twice in the second quarter. Keith Ray threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Morris. Then Demarcus Heath returned a blocked MVSU punt 36 yards for a 13-7 halftime lead.
Early in the third quarter, Robert Simpson recovered a Hornets' fumble in the end zone to tie the game. But Carlos Sanchez's extra point was blocked. Late in the quarter, Trey Bateaste scored on a 3-yard run to regain the lead for MVSU. But Sanchez missed the point after and it was 19-13.
With 2:18 to play, Immoni Carswell's one-yard run tied the game. Morris then kicked the extra point to win it.
