The Columbus Crew claimed the 2013 Trillium Cup and kept their thin playoff hopes alive with a 2-0 win over Toronto FC at Crew Stadium.
Columbus took the lead in the 16th minute. Bernardo Anor's shot off Chad Barson's cross was saved, but Federico Higuain picked up a lucky bounce and lashed a shot inside the far post.
The striker then doubled his tally in the 67th, taking a pass from Jairo Arrieta at the top of the area and chipping Toronto keeper Joe Bendik.
With two wins to one and a 4-2 advantage in goals scored, Columbus takes the 2013 edition of the Trillium Cup rivalry against TFC. The win puts the Crew up to 29 points on the season, still adrift of the playoff spots but still within shouting distance.
