Young-Pyo Lee's floating free kick gave the Vancouver Whitecaps a road win over the Columbus Crew.
The Crew thought they had done enough to win the game within the first five minutes. But Josh Williams' vicious volley was ruled out due to an off-the-ball infraction by Chad Marshall and Eddie Gaven's finish two minutes later was offside.
Williams latched onto another corner 15 minutes in, sending his audacious bicycle caroming off the crossbeam.
That set the stage for Lee, the 35-year-old South Korean international, to score his first MLS goal. The right back looped a free kick to the far post. Andy Gruenebaum shuffled out to deal with the cross before realizing, too late, that the ball was goal-bound. 1-0 to the Whitecaps and that's how it stayed.
