Columbia's big 2nd half overcomes Lafayette 77-67

NEW YORK (AP) Brian Barbour scored 21 points and Columbia overcame an 11-point halftime deficit with a huge second half to beat Lafayette 77-67 Friday night in nonconference action.

The Lions (8-5) trailed 48-37 at halftime but outscored Lafayette 40-19 in the second half for their sixth win in the last seven games. After winning its fourth straight home game in Levien Gym, Columbia is 6-1 for the month, its best December record since the 1969-70 Lions started 10-0.

With Lafayette (5-8) leading by 11 at halftime, Columbia erupted for a 23-5 run to open the second half. Although Ryan Willen scored 20 points for Lafayette, only one other Leopard - Jim Mower, with 13 points - was in double figures.

Barbour, who also grabbed five rebounds and had seven assists, got good help from Meiko Lyles, who scored 17 points. The Lions had a 27-17 rebounding edge, 8-2 on the offensive glass.
