Kicker Adam Vinatieri signed a two-year contract to return to the Indianapolis Colts.

"They knew that there's no other place that I wanted to be," Vinatieri said Tuesday. "Assuming that they wanted me here, I knew it was something that could definitely get done. I'm excited and extraordinarily happy that I can finish my career with just playing for two teams and at least 10 years on both and maybe more after that. We'll see about that but I wanted to be here and I'm happy they wanted me around."

Vinatieri is entering his ninth season with the Colts and joined the team after 10 seasons with the New England Patriots, where he established a reputation as a clutch big-game kicker with winning field goals against the Oakland Raiders in the AFC Championship game and in the final minute of Super Bowl victories against the St. Louis Rams and Carolina Panthers. He won three Super Bowls with the Patriots.

The 41-year-old was 35 of 40 (87.5 percent) on field-goal attempts last season.

Vinatieri is fifth on the NFL's all-time scoring list with 2,006 points behind John Carney (2,062) and Jason Hanson (2,150). Morten Andersen (2,544) is the all-time leader in points.

The Colts also announced that exclusive rights free agent outside linebacker Cam Johnson signed his tender.

Johnson was acquired by the Colts in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 2, 2013. Last season, he saw action in 12 games and totaled two tackles and six special teams stops. He also contributed with three special teams tackles in two postseason games.
