Colts place RB Bradshaw on IR

The SportsXchange

Running back Ahmad Bradshaw was placed on season-ending injured reserve by the Indianapolis Colts and is expected to undergo surgery.

Bradshaw was injured against San Francisco on Sept. 22 and visited multiple specialists to determine if he would elect to have surgery or try to play again this season. Bradshaw, who signed a one-year deal in the offseason, also dealt with a neck injury while with the New York Giants last season.

The Colts also waived fullback Robert Hughes from the active roster and released running back Kerwynn Williams from the practice squad. Hughes has appeared in one game and could return to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

The Colts signed the 27-year-old Bradshaw to a one-year deal in June. Because of durability questions -- Bradshaw had multiple foot surgeries as a member of the Giants -- his deal is laden with incentives.

Trent Richardson, acquired two weeks ago from the Cleveland Browns, and backup Donald Brown will be the primary ballcarriers going forward.
