The Indianapolis Colts placed center Phil Costa on their reserve/retired list, the team announced Monday. The 26-year-old Costa had just signed a two-year deal with the Colts in March, so his retirement came as a surprise. "Phil feels it's in his best interest to retire from the game," general manager Ryan Grigson said in a statement. "We certainly understand and wish him nothing but the best." Previously, Costa played four years with the Cowboys where he started 20 of 26 games over the past four seasons. However, he played only 120 snaps last season due to a back injury that eventually landed him on injured reserve. The Colts also announced that restricted free agent cornerback Josh Gordy signed his qualifying offer. Gordy appeared in 12 games in 2013 and registered nine tackles (eight solo), three passes defensed, one interception and four special teams stops. He competed in both postseason games and totaled eight tackles (seven solo) and one pass defensed. For his career, Gordy has tallied 77 tackles (56 solo), eight passes defensed, four interceptions, one sack, one fumble recovery and nine special teams tackles in 43 games played (10 starts). In three postseason games, he has notched eight tackles, one pass defensed and one special teams stop. In addition, the Colts agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent safety Colt Anderson. Anderson (5-10, 194 pounds) appeared in 48 games (six starts) over the past four seasons (2010-13) with the Philadelphia Eagles and recorded 47 tackles (33 solo), four passes defensed, one interception, two forced fumbles and 46 special teams stops. He appeared in 14 games in 2013 and led the team with a career-high 16 special teams tackles. In 2012, Anderson started the final four games at safety and posted a team-high 36 tackles during that span. Anderson was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Montana in 2009. He was then signed by the Eagles off the Vikings practice squad on Nov. 10, 2010.
