Colts add S Landry from Jets
Pro Bowl free agent safety LaRon Landry signed a four-year, $24 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts confirmed the signing, which was foreshadowed by general manager Ryan Grigson in February, when he stressed the importance of experience and leadership at the position.
"We're ecstatic about this signing," said Grigson in a statement. "We feel LaRon is an absolute game changer and a true impact player. We're talking about a 220-pound safety that runs 4.3 and plays to that speed. His approach to the game and his style of play are lights out and embody the culture we're building on the defense and this team in general."
Landry, 6-0, 220 pounds, played for the New York Jets last season and before that the Washington Redskins (2007-2011). He has started 79 of his last 80 games. He has six interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, 5.5 sacks and and 535 tackles.
He forced four fumbles and made 113 tackles last season to be voted to the Pro Bowl. The Colts ranked 29th against the run last season.
Landry was the selected to the All-Rookie Defensive Team in 2007 after becoming the Redskins rookie since 2001 to start every game. His biggest moment that season was twice intercepting Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck during the fourth quarter of the NFC Wild Card playoff game.
