The Colorado Rapids beat the New England Revolution 2-1 on Wednesday thanks to two goals within five minutes.
The visitors opened the scoring in the first quarter hour. Juan Toja drilled a low free kick into the bottom corner. It skidded on the ground and may have nicked Jerry Bengtson on its way in.
Two goals in five minutes turned the game on its head, though. Shortly after the hour mark, Nick LaBrocca cut sharply to elude Jose Goncalves. He hit a low, hard shot from well outside the box that beat Bobby Shuttleworth at the near post. Five minutes later, Goncalves was again involved. This time, he directed a Dillon Powers cross into his own net.
New England was looking for its first win in Colorado since 2002. The match also marked the return to gameday lineup for Revs defender Kevin Alston. He made the bench for the first time since being treated for leukemia, but he was not used by manager Jay Heaps.
