In front of a sold out crowd, the Colorado Rapids defeated Chivas USA 2-0.
With a healthy starting lineup, the Rapids put the pressure on early, as Rapids rookie Deshorn Brown crossed the ball into Atiba Harris in the second minute, but the former Goat was unable to connect.
It wasn’t long before the hosts enjoyed an early 1-0 over the visiting Goats. In the 11th minute, defender Chris Klute sent the ball into the box, and this time Harris scored by putting it into the right bottom corner of the net past Dan Kennedy.
In the 36th minute, Chivas USA was forced to make an early substitution with Oswaldo Minda replacing an injured Edgar Mejia. The Rapids soon followed by subbing out Martin Rivero, who had an injured right foot, with midfielder Dillon Powers.
The second half was more of a schoolyard brawl than a match, with both teams aggressive and ruthless in their attack. In the 77th minute, the Rapids turned their scrappiness into a goal, when Deshorn Brown crossed in the ball into Nathan Sturgis. From close range, the 25-year-old powerfully put the ball into the net. This was Sturgis’ second goal in two games, and it gave the Rapids the 2-0 win.
