Two big saves from Clint Irwin — along with some help from the post — helped the Colorado Rapids escape with a scoreless draw at the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday.
The Earthquakes (1-3-4) created the better chances but still settled for a point at home against Colorado (4-2-3), which got a standout performance from its 25-year-old goalkeeper.
Irwin came up with his biggest stop of the first half when he pushed a point-blank header from Chris Wondolowski off the post in the 30th minute.
It was deja vu in the 88th minute, when Shea Salinas forayed into Colorado's box and the ball fell for Wondolowski, who saw his shot deflect off Irwin and ring the post.
