College football roundup: Wisconsin dismisses offensive line coach

Wisconsin Badgers offensive line coach Mike Markuson is out after two games.

"As of today, officially, we've moved on in a transition at the offensive line position," coach Bret Bielema said.

Badgers' offensive quality control coordinator Bart Miller is expected to serve as Markuson's replacement.

Wisconsin made a change after the Badgers recorded just 35 rushing yards in Saturday's 10-7 loss at Oregon State. The Badgers were one of four teams to drop out of the AP's Top 25 poll Sunday.

Players and coaches said communication issues were part of the issue. Wisconsin lost multiple key starters, including Kevin Zeitler and Peter Konz, as well as offensive line coach Bob Bostad, who was at UW from 2006 through 2011.

The Badgers rank 103rd nationally in rushing after two games, after finishing 11th last year.

---Alabama Crimson Tide backup running back Jalston Fowler is likely out for the season after suffering a knee injury on Saturday, head coach Nick Saban told reporters.

Fowler writhed in pain late in the fourth quarter of the Crimson Tide's 35-0 win against Western Kentucky, and had to be helped off the field.

Starting running back Eddie Lacy has been slowed by injuries, making the loss of Fowler tougher to endure Without Fowler, Alabama has three fully healthy running backs, all freshmen.

---Tulane president Scott Cowen emailed the university community Monday regarding the serious spine injury suffered Saturday by safety Devon Walker.

He remains in ICU at an Oklahoma hospital after a three-hour surgery in which neurosurgeons stabilized his spine. On Sunday, Tulane University's team physician Dr. Greg Stewart said it will be "several days" before his post-surgery condition can be assessed.
