College football roundup: Oklahoma dismisses RB Williams

The SportsXchange

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Monday that senior running back Damien Williams was dismissed from the team.

Stoops did not specify why Williams was kicked off the team but the Oklahoman reported that Williams violated team rules.

Williams and senior wide receiver Lecoltan Bester were both suspended from Saturday's game against the Kansas State, which the Sooners won.

It was Williams' second suspension of the season. He also missed a game against Tulsa in September.

The Norman Transcript reported that Bester will return to the team this week.

Williams is the team's second-leading rusher with 553 yards with a team-high seven rushing touchdowns.

---Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota had to be helped off the field in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 42-16 loss to Arizona, but Mariota said on Monday he expects to start in Friday's game against Oregon State, the Oregonian reported.

According to the report, Mariota said he passed all the required concussion tests.

After Saturday's loss, Mariota said he was not sure whether he had suffered a concussion or not. He was hurt when he was hit in the head by the knee of an Arizona player when Mariota was trying to make a tackle after throwing an interception.

---Texas quarterback David Ash, who has not played since Sept. 21, has been ruled out for the rest of this season because of a symptoms from a concussion, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Ash began the season as the Longhorns' starting quarterback. He suffered a concussion Sept. 7 against BYU, and returned Sept. 21 for the game at Kansas State. However, he left that game when concussion symptoms returned.

Ash, a junior, is expected to return for spring practice.
