College football roundup: Florida may start third-string QB
Florida's difficult season could get a little more difficult as third-string quarterback Skyler Mornhinweg, a redshirt freshman, may be forced into a starting role for the Gators in Saturday's game against South Carolina.
Jeff Driskel, who began the season as the Gators' starting quarterbacks, was lost for the season back in September with an ankle injury.
Tyler Murphy has been the starter since then, but he has been bothered by a lingering shoulder injury, which he aggravated in the loss to Vanderbilt last weekend. It will be a game-time decision whether Murphy can play.
Mornhinweg, who is the son of New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, has never started a game for Florida and has never thrown a pass at the collegiate level.
---Southern California running back Silas Redd was ruled out from playing Saturday's game against Stanford because of a knee injury.
Redd was unable to practice this week after sustaining the injury last week against California.
